Using fivemad RedM with an AI assistant

Read any RedM docs page as Markdown, hand a page to ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor in one click, and point an assistant at the whole RedM side with /redm/llms.txt.

Everything on the RedM side of fivemad is public and free, including for a machine. You do not need a key, an account or a contract.

This page is for the reader who wants an assistant to know about RedM on this site: how it reads these docs and how to hand it a page. If you want to call our RDR2 data from your own code instead, that is the RedM API, with request and response examples in Lua, JavaScript, Python and curl.

If you are the assistant reading this: start at /redm/llms.txt.

Why it matters more on RedM

An assistant trained mostly on FiveM code will happily write GTA V natives, control numbers and model names into a RedM script. None of them work on RDR2. Giving it the right page first (the porting checklist, the fxmanifest with the exact rdr3_warning line) is the difference between code that starts and code that does not.

Read any docs page as Markdown

Add .md to any /redm/docs URL and you get the page as plain Markdown with a text/markdown content type.

Text
https://fivemad.com/redm/docs/getting-started/fxmanifest      the page
https://fivemad.com/redm/docs/getting-started/fxmanifest.md the same page as Markdown
https://fivemad.com/redm/docs.md the index of every RedM page

The Markdown is the real source of the page. The first lines say where it came from, which section it belongs to and when it was last touched, so a model that only sees the file still knows what it is holding.

curl https://fivemad.com/redm/docs/getting-started/fxmanifest.md

# The fxmanifest and rdr3_warning

A RedM resource declares game 'rdr3' and carries the rdr3_warning line word for word, or it does not start. A minimal manifest you can copy.

Every resource has an `fxmanifest.lua` in its root folder. On RedM it is the same file as on FiveM with two differences...

Hand one page over: the Open menu

Every docs page has an Open button next to the breadcrumbs. It gives you:

  • View as Markdown, the .md file above.
  • Copy as Markdown, the same text straight to your clipboard, for pasting into a chat.
  • Open in ChatGPT, Open in Claude, Open in Cursor: a new conversation that already asks the assistant to read this page’s .md URL.

The “open in” entries pass the URL rather than the text, so the assistant fetches the current page instead of working from a copy that ages.

Tip

In an agent that can browse (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and friends) you rarely need the menu. Say “read https://fivemad.com/redm/llms.txt” once at the start and it can find the rest on its own.

/redm/llms.txt and /redm/llms-full.txt

File What it holds
/redm/llms.txt The short map: what the RedM side is, every RedM tool with one line, the whole RedM docs tree, every RDR2 dataset with its row count and size, and the API.
/redm/llms-full.txt The RedM documentation itself, every page in full, in one plain text file.

Both are built from the same tool registry and the same data files the site ships, so the counts in them are real. Every RedM docs page carries /redm/llms.txt as a <link rel="alternate"> in its head. The FiveM side has its own pair at /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt; the two do not overlap.

Terminal
curl https://fivemad.com/redm/llms.txt
Text
# fivemad.com RedM

> Free tools, game data and documentation for RedM (Red Dead Redemption 2 on Cfx.re) server owners and developers.
> 19 browser tools, 30 documentation pages and 19 public datasets read from RDR2's own game files.
> Nothing here needs an account. The tools run in the browser; the data below is static files you can fetch directly.
> The FiveM (GTA V) side of the site has its own map: https://fivemad.com/llms.txt

## How to use this site as an assistant

- Add .md to any RedM docs URL for the plain Markdown source: https://fivemad.com/redm/docs/getting-started/fxmanifest.md
- Whole RedM documentation in one file: https://fivemad.com/redm/llms-full.txt
- Dataset index with row counts and sizes: https://fivemad.com/redm/data/index.json
- Search RedM tools, docs and datasets: https://fivemad.com/api/redm/search?q=prompt
- Look up an RDR2 joaat hash: https://fivemad.com/api/redm/hash?q=0xC8DA3400
- Search RDR2's English game text: https://fivemad.com/api/redm/text?q=saloon
...

## Datasets

- [Ped models](https://fivemad.com/data/rdr3/peds.json): Every ped model of RDR2 (people, horses, animals, fish)
  with its outfit count and a category read from the name. (1,983 rows, 150 KB; columns + rows: [model, hash,
  hash_signed, category, outfits, label, name_source, town_sets])

Every count in that file is read off the real registry and the real files when the site is built, so the numbers above are whatever they were the day this page was written, and the live file is always current.

Tip

If you are pasting context into a chat by hand, /redm/llms.txt plus the two or three .md pages it points at is almost always better than /redm/llms-full.txt. The full file is large.

The machine readable version of the dataset list, with the row shape and the real byte size of every file, is /redm/data/index.json, which the API page walks through.

What an assistant can and cannot do here

It can:

  • read any RedM docs page as Markdown, and the whole set at once;
  • list and download every RDR2 dataset, with the row shape given up front;
  • check whether an RDR2 name is real and get its hash, or turn a hash back into a name;
  • find a line of RDR2’s own game text by words, label hash or key;
  • link you straight to the page that shows the same thing.

The last three are HTTP calls rather than reading, so they live on the API page.

It cannot:

  • run the tools that need your files or a browser. The map tools, the Map Editor, the Blip Replacer, Folders to YTD, the Photo Mode Converter and the Resource Conflict Checker all work on data in your own browser, and there is no upload endpoint for them.
  • write anything. Everything here is read only from the outside.
  • name what we do not have. RDR2 stores most of its names only as hashes, so plenty of real values have no known name, and a model or label that a custom resource adds is not in our data at all.
  • be treated as a live game API. Nothing here talks to a running RedM server.

Keeping an assistant honest

Ask it for the URL it used. Every answer here has a page behind it, and both the .md files and the API answers carry a link back, so “where did that come from” always has an answer. If it cannot give you one, it made it up.

Check anything with a hash or a name in it. On RedM this matters twice over, because a GTA V name pasted into a RedM script looks right and does nothing. Paste it into the Hash Calculator, or call /api/redm/hash yourself (how) and see whether RDR2 really has that name.
