# VORP, RSG or standalone

The RedM frameworks that are maintained today, VORP and RSG, how their data is laid out, their licenses, and when to go standalone instead.

A framework is the set of resources that gives a roleplay server its players, characters, money, inventory and jobs. On RedM two are maintained: **VORP** and **RSG**. You can also run without one.

| Framework | License | Repository | Docs |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| VORP | GPL-2.0 | [VORPCORE/vorp_core](https://github.com/VORPCORE/vorp_core) | [docs.vorp-core.com](https://docs.vorp-core.com) |
| RSG | GPL-3.0 | [Rexshack-RedM/rsg-core](https://github.com/Rexshack-RedM/rsg-core) | [rsgcore.com/docs](https://rsgcore.com/docs) |
| RedEM:RP | GPL-3.0 (modules) | [RedEM-RP](https://github.com/RedEM-RP) | none |

The licenses are read from each repository's own LICENSE file. Both VORP and RSG are GPL: check what that means for you before you sell a script built on them.

## VORP

VORP has its own layout. A player is a row in `users` and each of their characters a row in `characters`; items live in `items` and `character_inventories`, and weapons in a separate `loadout` table.

The official txAdmin recipe list carries a VORP recipe (VORPCORE/VORP_txAdmin), so you can get a working VORP server from txAdmin's setup screen without installing anything by hand.

## RSG

RSG is a fork of QBCore. A player is a `players` row with a `citizenid` and JSON columns, and items and jobs are defined in shared Lua files.

If your team already knows QBCore from FiveM, RSG is the natural pick: the structure, the naming and the way resources talk to the core will be familiar. Rexshack-RedM publishes a txAdmin recipe for it.

## Standalone

Standalone means no framework: the stock resources from the [default-redm recipe](/redm/docs/server-setup) plus whatever you write or install. That is the right choice for:

- a freeroam, race or event server that has no characters, money or inventory;
- learning RedM scripting without a framework's conventions in the way;
- a resource you want to sell to everybody, which then works on any server and leaves the framework glue to the buyer.

If a standalone resource later needs a framework, keep the framework calls in one small file per framework so the rest of the code does not change.

## RedEM:RP

RedEM:RP has had no commits since 2024. It is fine to read for ideas, but risky to start a new server on.

## What changes between them in practice

Items are the place you notice it first. The [Item Generator](/redm/docs/tools/item-generator) takes RDR2 items with their game icons and writes them either as VORP items SQL or as an RSG shared items Lua block, and the [Blip Placer](/redm/docs/tools/blip-placer) and [Door Finder](/redm/docs/tools/door-finder) write config blocks in the shape each framework's resources expect. The [server.cfg Generator](/redm/docs/tools/server-cfg-generator) has a preset for each.
